Helping Hands
Brightside Financial Care, your Choose Well benefit, is here to help with all things money — from urgent situations to managing debt to applying for the Helping Hands Fund.
Helping Hands is a grant-funded program for caregivers at Providence and its family of organizations, administered by Brightside.
It provides tax-free emergency grants of up to $2,000 (lifetime maximum) to eligible caregivers facing a crisis, unexpected hardship, or situation that threatens their ability to meet basic needs such as housing, utilities, food, or transportation needed to get to work.
Register with Brightside to apply for Helping Hands and get help with any other financial need, challenge, question, or goal — always confidential and at no cost to you.

One conversation makes a difference
Morgan was laid off from his previous employer and went several months without a paycheck. He started his new job at Providence already behind on rent and received a shut-off notice from his phone provider.
Morgan’s Brightside Financial Assistant helped him apply for Helping Hands, and he was approved for an amount that allowed him to stay in his apartment and keep his phone on. His Financial Assistant also connected him with five local organizations that helped cover food and other essentials. Now that he’s found more stability, the two are working to improve his credit score — so he’ll have even more options in the future.

Frequently asked questions
Caregivers at Providence and its family of organizations who are experiencing a crisis or unforeseen hardship can apply. Temporary employees and independent contractors are not eligible for Helping Hands.
Based on a Brightside Financial Assistant’s assessment of the information you provide — through your interview, application, and supporting documents — they’ll refer you to all applicable personal and community resources, which may include Helping Hands.

- The specific financial need(s) you are applying for
- Address, email, and contact information
- Other resources you have reached out to for assistance
- The emergency that created your need for financial assistance (for example: sudden illness, death or funeral, house fire or flood, an accident resulting in loss of work, non-routine vehicle or home repair, domestic or physical abuse, reduced or lack of income)
- Documentation of need (for example: housing or utility bills, eviction notice, utility shut-off notice, car repair estimate, car repossession notice)
- All sources of household income
